Business Article Marketing: Does It Work for Larger Companies ...

For many years now article marketing has been the "go to" marketing tool for small business owners who want to market their websites. Increasingly though, I've noticed that interest is expanding to larger companies as well. I received this question recently from someone who works at a large corporation:

"Do you think that article marketing would work for a large company? I know it works well for small business owners and that it's great for establishing the expertise of an author, but as a large company we want to bring attention to the company and not any particular person in our organization. Also, I don't know if our traditional website would be very marketable. A lot of people these days have blogs and sites with lots of informational content, but our website is a static one that just has info about your company. Many thanks for your input on this!"

I'm so glad that someone asked this! There is no reason why submitting articles wouldn't work for a large company, and I know many SEO specialists who work with large companies and who use article marketing as part of an overall online marketing plan for the company.

I just want to be sure that you understand how article marketing works, and I think that will help you to understand why business article marketing is not restricted to just small businesses, but would actually work for any size of business.

Article marketing is great for establishing the expertise of an author, but that's not the main benefit by a long shot. The main reason that people engage in creating free reprint articles is to get a higher search engine ranking for their website. This is how article marketing helps improve a web page's ranking:

You submit articles on the general topic of your website. These would not be articles about your business or your website, but they would instead be articles that teach your readers things that they need to know about your general niche.

Along with every article you submit you will also create what is called a resource box. A resource box is where you tell a little more about your company, provide a link to your website, and give a reason to click the link to your website. You could list an author name in the resource box if you wanted, but it's not required. Many people who are marketing on behalf of a large company will just list the company name rather than a specific person.

In your resource box, you will have the opportunity to link words of your choosing to your website. The words that you would choose to link are called "keywords". Keywords are words of special significance for your website, words that are accurate in classifying what your website is about and what people are typing into Google to reach websites such as yours.

Through that link in your resource box where the keywords are linked to your website, you are sending very powerful information to Google and the other search engines about what your website is about. This helps Google and the other search engines to classify your website and rank it appropriately. With consistent marketing, ideally the pages on your website will show up high in the rankings when someone does a search for one of your keywords.

You can discover the best keywords for your website by using a keyword research tool--there are many of these available online. When you do keyword research, you will come up with a variety of different phrases associated with the topic of your website, and you will alternate using those phrases in your resource boxes each time you submit an article.

So, that is how article marketing helps business owners--it can help your website to get a higher ranking, and the higher the ranking the more people will be referred to your website. The more targeted visitors who are referred to your website, the more potential sales and business for you.

Article marketing works for all types of websites, whether they're the static traditional website or a blog. Even among small business owners, not everyone has a blog--many are marketing traditional websites.

I hope this helps explain how article marketing can work for people with businesses of all sizes. It's true that small business owners were the first to catch on to the power of article marketing, but now larger corporations are jumping on board too. The purpose of article marketing is to help drive targeted traffic to a website, and that's something that's desirable whether you're a solo business owner or have a huge organization.

Krasting: Social Security And The Beach - Business Insider

Social Security (SS) will race through another milestone in October. For the first time in its history, SS? will pay out more than $65 billion in a single month.

Other than the fact that this is an incredibly big number, there is nothing eye-opening about the payout. SS missed hitting the $65b milestone by a fraction in September. In November, it will be higher again. $70b will be hit by December 2013. The ladder to higher payouts never stops.

$65b is a very big number:

-The monthly SS payout is bigger than the market cap of some well know companies, including: Amex, 3M, US Bankcorp, Amgen, eBay and? Caterpillar. Goldman Sachs is worth a measly $54b. SS could buy the whole thing with just three-weeks worth of payout.

-The annual cost for SS is greater than the ridiculous monster market cap for Apple. If SS used its muscle to buy big cap stocks, it could buy up all of the shares of Microsoft, Wal-Mart and Google in less than a year.

The annual SS payout is about the same as the GDP of the Netherlands. It is well larger than the output of either Turkey, Switzerland or Saudi Arabia. In 2013 SS will spend more than the GDP of Indonesia, a country of 250m people.

The yearly SS checks are now equal to the GDP of Florida. The payout beats the entire economy of Illinois.?

The monthly SS burn rate is greater than the annual GDP of New Mexico and Hawaii. Vermont, the smallest state (by GDP), has a yearly economic output of only 30B. SS is 26Xs larger than the Green Mountain State.

The 2012 bill for SS will exceed the cost of the military, that?s the first time this has happened. The annual tab at SS is four-times greater than all of the military spending by China.

I could go on.

Of course SS has a dedicated revenue stream from FICA and SECA taxes to cover its big monthly nut. Unfortunately SS will come up a bit short in October; about $16Bn short:

?

The good news is that SS has other sources of income. In October 2012 it will rake in about $8bn from seniors who are collecting monthly SS checks and who also are still working (or have passive income).

I think of this revenue for SS as, ?A tax on a tax?.? It?s double taxation, not unlike the double taxation on dividend income. This tax is paid by the seniors who are clipping big coupons down in Boca; it is also paid by those seniors you see stocking the aisles at Wal-Mart (double-dippers).

SS needs cash money to back up the checks it sends out. To cover the shortfall in greenbacks, it will be forced to sell a chunk of its Trust Fund (TF) assets. That?s not a problem for SS. The US Treasury is happy to redeem the TF?s special issue bonds at par.

The Treasury has no money lying around, so it has to go out and sell an extra $8b to the public to cover the October shortfall. Given that the Federal Reserve is QEing, ZIRPing and TWISTing (all at the same time) the extra Debt Owed to the Pubic is no problem at all.

I say that Treasury is ?happy? to hock those TF assets at par with good reason. The rules for the TF require it to sell a portion of its high yielding portfolio to cover any monthly shortfall. The TF does not realize a gain from the sale of high-yielding bonds in its portfolio (a win for Treasury). Consider what happened in October 2011; the net cash shortfall was $6.7B.

?

To cover the cash miss, SS sold (at par) a total $5B of older, high coupon paper. New investments earned SS only 1.6% in 2011 (1.3% today!). Note: SS must maintain a minimum average life of 7.5 years on its portfolio. This forces them to liquidate ?winners? (high coupon) and hold ?losers? (low coupon).

?

What?s happening with SS is like beach erosion. Every month more grains of sand go out to sea. The waves that keep eroding SS?s beaches include:

-The never-ending recession that brings low employment (low payroll tax receipts).

?-The rapid aging process that the country is now going through (and will for the next fifteen years).

?-ZIRP, QE and TWIST (and any other silly thing the Fed comes up with) is killing interest income at SS.

Because of the ?ZIRP till 2015? commitment by the Fed, coupled with a rate setting formula for SS that looks backward three years, it is now certain that interest income will decline every year for the rest of the decade. It will fall below $50Bn in five years ($114B in 2011).

Again, nothing unusual or unexpected will occur at SS in October. All of the things I discuss here are ?programed? to happen. Some grains of sand will go out to sea. It won?t be noticed. But come back in few years, you?ll be surprised by the damage.

Alternative Educational Methods

21st century, latest technological gadgets and modern outlook ? we seem to have everything. There?s still something which we crave for when it comes to education for our little ones and that is different teaching methods. Why is it that, we, as parents are not satisfied with the teaching methods adopted by schools and colleges? Is it because children are pressurized too much into studying or is it that education in school is only limited to academics?

Whatever be the reason, parents are trying to look for alternative educational methods, wherein their children can not only learn better, but also in an easy way, without stressing them. So, what are the other methods available for parents to explore? As of now, we can find that there are 3 alternative educational methods available for parents and children. They are:

1. Montessori schools

2. Waldorf/ Steiner schools

3. Friends schools

4. Homeschooling

While the Montessori schools and Waldorf schools are gaining popularity among many, friends school and homeschooling are not much known in India. One can find that the Montessori Method of learning is fast catching up in our country as an alternate educational method. Initially, one may notice that the child is not taught on par with the subjects and topics in regular schools, but as they get used to the schedule and pattern of learning, they are exposed to more topics and subjects. With hands on experience given importance to understand the various concepts, children find that they love the very thought of going to school and learning.

Montessori methods not only emphasize on the importance of the child to understand the concepts, but also help them in their overall development. A 7/8yr old child being able to give a speech on a greener planet and global warming with data is something which can mesmerize anyone of us. Yes, this is possible through the Montessori Method, wherein children learn to deliver speeches and take part in debates as early as 8/9years.

The Waldorf method is also on the similar lines, wherein a child?s creativity is put to task to imagine and understand everything and also use analytics to analyze the same. One can also find that in this method of teaching/learning, a teacher is given the freedom to choose the syllabus and curriculum that they term fit for the students of their class. This helps the teacher decide on how much to cover in a topic and also how much can the students understand and learn.

In either of these methods, one can find that children are going to be given a chance to explore and learn and not be pressed into text book reading and learning. This not only makes them happy, but also the information thus assimilated is retained in one?s memory for a longer period of time.

German Jewish leader deters racist attack with gun

A leading member of Germany's Jewish community had to point to a gun he was carrying to ward off a young man shouting anti-Semitic abuse, the latest in a string of racist incidents in Berlin that has shocked Jews and city authorities.

The Central Council of Jews in Germany said its general secretary, Michael Kramer, had endured a barrage of threatening insults from the man after leaving a Berlin synagogue with his two daughters on Wednesday.

"The man threatened us and made clear he would have lashed out if the children had not been there," the council quoted Kramer, 44, as saying on its website.

Kramer then pointed to a gun he is allowed to carry for his personal protection to deter the man from attacking him.

A retired teacher's courageous crusade: Tackling neo-Nazi hate

Germany's top-selling Bild newspaper carried a photograph of the young man that Kramer himself had taken at the time with his mobile phone. The man, with a partially shaven head, has an arm raised towards the phone as though about to push Kramer.

Bild quoted the man as having said to Kramer: "What are you doing here? Go back to where you came from."

Both Kramer and his adversary are pressing charges against each other, German media said.

Last month, one of the first rabbis ordained in Germany since the Holocaust, Daniel Alter, was beaten up on a Berlin street in front of his young daughter by four attackers, prompting a seminary to advise its students to avoid wearing skullcaps in public.

Germany's official Jewish population, now at around 120,000, has grown more than 10-fold in the last 20 years, thanks largely to an influx of Jews from the former Soviet Union, but anti-Semitic attacks are commonplace and policemen guard synagogues around the clock.

Apple supplier's factory back up after China brawl

BEIJING (AP) ? A Chinese factory owned by the manufacturer of Apple's iPhones has resumed production after a brawl involving some 2,000 workers highlighted chronic labor tensions in a country that prohibits independent unions.

Foxconn Technology Group and police said the cause of the unrest Sunday night was under investigation, but it comes amid a series of violent protests by workers in areas throughout China over grievances about pay and working conditions. Foxconn and police said as many as 2,000 employees were involved and 40 people were reported injured.

Foxconn manufactures Apple Inc.'s new iPhone 5, which debuted last week in the United States and eight other countries, but declined to say whether the one-day suspension would affect supplies of that model. Apple has a three- to four-week backlog of online orders as it ramps up production to meet demand.

News reports and witnesses said the violence that erupted Sunday night in Taiyuan in northern China stemmed from a confrontation between a factory worker and a guard that quickly escalated. One employee reached by telephone said the violence was fueled by anger among factory workers over treatment by Foxconn security guards and managers.

"Foxconn, some supervisors, and security guards never respect us," said the employee, who asked not to be identified by name. "We all have this anger toward them and they (the workers) wanted to destroy things to release this anger."

Production at the Taiyuan factory resumed on Tuesday, according to an employee who answered the phone at the factory's labor office. He would give only his surname, Li.

Labor tensions in China have been aggravated by a slowing economy that is squeezing employers and a communist system that prohibits independent labor unions.

Many factories and other businesses have unions but they must be part of the government-sanctioned All-China Federation of Trade Unions. Workers complain leaders of local branches often are allied with management and fail to stand up for the workforce.

That means grievances over pay, working hours and other conditions spiral into strikes and public protests. In some cases, ACFTU representatives have scuffled with striking employees outside factories.

"They have no other way of voicing their grievances," said Geoffrey Crothall, communications director for China Labour Bulletin, a Hong Kong organization that promotes employee rights in China. "There are no formal channels of communication or ways of resolving grievances through peaceful negotiation."

Foxconn, owned by Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., has faced scrutiny over workers' complaints about wages and working hours. The company raised minimum pay and promised in March to limit hours after an auditor hired by Apple found Foxconn employees were regularly required to work more than 60 hours a week.

Foxconn makes iPhones and iPads for Apple Inc. and also assembles products for Microsoft Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co.

It is one of China's biggest employers, with some 1.2 million workers in factories in Taiyuan, the southern city of Shenzhen, in Chengdu in the west and in Zhengzhou in central China.

Foxconn employees have complained about what some call "military-style" management.

"Workers are expected to obey their manager at all times, not to question but simply to what they are told," Crothall said. "That atmosphere is not conducive to a happy or contented workforce. It's a very dehumanizing way of treating workers."

Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring would provide a more accurate measurement of the prevalence of hypertension

A recently published editorial in the Journal of the American Society of Hypertension (JASH), "Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring Should Be Included in the National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (NHANES)," recognizes the importance of this national survey instrument but questions the efficiency of its diagnostic methods in assessing hypertension in the population.*

Since the 1960s, CDC has utilized traditional blood pressure screening using a sphygmomanometer to measure the brachial artery pressure (a diagnostic instrument used since 1880). Drs. William B. White, President of the American Society of Hypertension, Inc. (ASH), Thomas D. Giles, a Past President of ASH, and colleagues have expressed concern regarding this methodology and its limitations in accurately detecting hypertension in patients. Their editorial strongly recommends that the CDC utilize a more sensitive and specific tool for assessing blood pressure in its national surveys.

Their recommendation for improving national statistics on hypertension is the inclusion of ambulatory BP monitoring in the NHANES' methodology. Among many physicians and hypertension specialists, ambulatory BP monitoring has been recognized as a superior and accurate method for detecting hypertension. The utilization of this advanced diagnostic method may bring to light many mitigating factors that affect the proper diagnosis of this condition, such as white coat hypertension, resistant hypertension, and nocturnal hypertension. Leading hypertension specialists around the country recognize that ABPM can not only detect hypertension in cases in which the disease actually exists, but also identify who is really in control and who is not.

As a supplement to clinical office blood pressure measurements, ABPM allows physicians and health care providers to properly diagnose patients. As a screening tool used in national health surveys, ABPM will provide for a more accurate representation of the hypertension epidemic in America, thus allowing for the development of more appropriate national health initiatives to decrease rates of uncontrolled hypertension.

* On September 4, 2012, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identified hypertension as the leading cardiovascular disease risk factor in its most recent Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR). The numbers presented in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) report painted a rather worrisome picture of the nation's health status in relation to hypertension and its deleterious effects, noting that

  • roughly 36 million people have uncontrolled high blood pressure, about 26 million with uncontrolled blood pressure have seen a doctor at least twice the past year
  • nearly 22 million know they have high blood pressure, but don't have it under control
  • 16 million take medicine, but still don't have their blood pressure under control

GOP backer Adelson accused of commandeering Israel's media market

Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson grabbed the spotlight in the US earlier this year for making multi-million dollar campaign contributions to Republican presidential candidates on the bet that their policies would better jibe with those of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu than with President Obama's.

In Israel, Mr. Adelson is better known as the force behind the five-year-old free newspaper, "Yisrael Hayom" (Israel Today), which is seen by some as the Israeli print equivalent of Fox News. Touting Israeli patriotism, it is among the most widely read newspapers in the country and has a reputation for its fiercely loyal coverage of Mr. Netanyahu ? and now Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

Adelson rejects accusations of bias, insisting in a previous interview that his paper is a "fair and balanced" alternative to other newspapers more critical of the government and that he is breaking rival newspaper Yediot Ahranot's monopoly on the market. Many Israelis nonetheless see the paper as a political vehicle to support the prime minster, and now, American Republican politicians. And with other newspapers floundering financially while Adelson puts his substantial wealth behind Yisrael Hayom, some worry that he is squeezing other political ideologies out of the market.

"You can see completely biased coverage always emphasizing good news for the Republicans, or always hiding or eliminating bad news for the Republicans," says Oren Persico, who writes a daily analysis of print news coverage for Israel?s media magazine "The Seventh Eye." "It's one-sided, so Israelis will stand behind Romney."

RELATED ? Obama vs. Romney 101: 4 differences on Israel

An opinion poll conducted by Hebrew University and released yesterday showed Mr. Romney with an eight percentage point advantage over Mr. Obama among Israelis ? 34 percent to 26 percent, with 20 percent undecided. Another opinion poll from earlier this month suggested that the gap was more than two to one.

While it is impossible to discern the exact role Yisrael Hayom plays in shaping those opinions, its critical take on Obama and its upbeat coverage of the Republican campaign stand out from the rest of Israeli media coverage of US politics.

For example, the day after the Romney campaign was rocked by a video of the candidate making disparaging remarks about Americans who pay no income tax, Yisrael Hayom featured a front page opinion piece alleging the US is a declining empire and accusing Obama of "voluntarily lowering the profile" of the US and fueling unrest in Arab countries. The story about the video was on page 23.

A day later, the newspaper wrote in a subhead that "commentators think the affair will help" and quoted conservative columnist Ann Coulter saying that Romney comments were on the mark. Today the newspaper acknowledged that the video is having a negative impact on public opinion of Romney, but cited "optimism from surveys" indicating that the Republican candidate remains close in the polls, despite the uproar.

Yisrael Hayom is not the only paper that comes across as promoting a particular political agenda in Israel. News coverage in the liberal newspaper Haaretz, for example, is known to be sympathetic to the US president and heavily critical of Netanyahu. But critics of Yisrael Hayom say the fact that the paper has never reported a profit is further evidence that the goal of the paper is primarily political rather than a business enterprise.

Nahum Barnea, an Israel Prize laureate columnist who works for rival newspaper Yediot Ahronot, has denounced Yisrael Hayom as a paper with no business model that serves the interest of "one man" and is undermining Israeli democracy by making it impossible for for-profit newspapers to compete.

And as Yisrael Hayom has surged in readers, other Israeli papers that need to make money in order to stay afloat have struggled ? yesterday, the cash-strapped daily newspaper Ma?ariv was sold to Shlomo Ben Zvi, the owner of another right wing newspaper, who announced plans to lay off most of the staff.

"For many years, the media was dominated by left-of-center views and families supporting the Labor party," says Mitchell Barak, an Israeli pollster. But today the paper?s sympathetic coverage of US Republicans has a natural audience in Israel, he says.

"In general, Israelis have been disappointed with the promise and hope of Obama. That?s not specific to Yisrael Hayom."

The Verizon Wireless version of the iPhone 5, which went on sale Friday, comes with a secret and unexpected feature: it works on AT&T's network as well.

Confirming blog reports, The Associated Press found that a Verizon iPhone 5 accepts an AT&T "SIM card" ? a chip that identifies a phone to a network. The phone can then be active on AT&T's network.

It's the first time Verizon iPhones have been able to access AT&T's network without complicated hacking procedures. The feature gives Verizon customers the option to switch carriers rather than renewing an expired contract.

It's unclear whether the feature is intended and whether the phones will work with other carriers such as T-Mobile USA.

Verizon Wireless referred questions about the SIM card feature to Apple, which did not respond.?

Tips on Choosing an Email Marketing Software - Business Directory ...

The booming industry of internet marketing has paved the way for email marketing to be known among web entrepreneurs. This is a marketing technique on which email messages (hence the name) are sent to a number of opt-in clients. When done correctly, email marketing could help one reach to a wider audience and earn a considerable amount of profit from site traffic. Email marketing can be done with ease with the use of an email marketing software.

Every year, the demand for email marketing software increases tremendously. Many companies take it as a chance to sell their own version of email marketing software. While the varying choices could be a good thing, this could also stir confusion among entrepreneurs especially when they come to the stage of choosing one.

The following are some of the tips that could help an entrepreneur choose an email marketing software that would suit his/her needs:

1. Assess your needs

The first thing that one should do before shopping for an email marketing software is to identify his/her email marketing needs. These needs are usually affected by the size of the company, the type of content that the person would like to send, and the number of prospects that one would like to get in contact with. Create a list of your needs and shop around for email marketing software that suits your requirements.

The growing list of email marketing software makes it very possible now to find one that suits your needs. In fact, you could chance upon more than one vendor of a software that exactly meets your requirements. It?s just up to you to look for other factors to determine which of them you would settle.

2. Learn to compare

Just because another entrepreneur uses it doesn?t necessarily mean you should too. Remember that each software is unique and they cater to different marketing needs. What works for one might not work for you.

The needs you?ve cited on step #1 are crucial in this stage. Use your list of needs as a guide in shopping for a software. Assess every offer of the vendor, run some comparisons with other software, and learn to read reviews. You could also ask for a list of their past and present clientele and use this to further evaluate the product.

3. Choose a software that gives good value for money

Because each email marketing software has different set of features, they are priced differently from one software to another. Consider their price and check whether it suits your budget and if it does give you good value. Most of the email marketing software in the market is priced according to the number of subscribers you have. You can also try to negotiate the price with the vendor.

Want to find out more about the media autoresponder, then visit Steven Porter?s version of the software. If want you want installation information you can check out media autoresponder software installation page. What?s good about this auto responder is that it?s inexpensive and comes with zero maintenance fees.

Tokyo Game Show focuses on social, smartphones

CHIBA, Japan (AP) ? It's not quite game over at the annual Tokyo Game Show opening Thursday, but with smartphones, tablets and other computer-like devices luring people away from the once-dominant consoles devoted to video games, the rules have changed.

Adding to the uncertainty is the long wait for the possible successors to such game consoles as Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 ? perhaps a PlayStation 4 or Xbox 720. Nintendo's Wii U home console goes on sale in November in the U.S. and Europe, and on Dec. 8 in Japan.

"The game industry in general is still very much in a state of flux," said game veteran Mark MacDonald, executive director at Tokyo-based 8-4, which localizes and consults about games, including the "Monster Hunter" series, one of the blockbusters displayed at the show.

"Mobile and social games continue to grow, and although some business models have emerged, everyone still seems uncertain of their future. Will they keep growing? Will they be looked back on as a fad? Or are they the future?" MacDonald said.

Some of the booths at Makuhari Messe hall in this Tokyo suburb looked familiar, with big screens running trailers of the latest versions of hit games like "Biohazard" from Capcom and "Final Fantasy" from Square Enix. But some booths also had games for smartphones.

Gree Inc., founded in 2004, has risen to stardom through social games, often played on smartphones, in which players can interact and cooperate with each other. Gree had the second biggest booth at the show after Capcom.

Yoshikazu Tanaka, founder and chief executive of Gree, was not only bullish about smartphones and social games, he said he was also looking to emerging markets for the next wave of growth.

He said game consoles will not catch on in some developing nations, but people there had mobile phones, presenting opportunities for Gree. In a decade, emerging nations will make up 80 percent to 90 percent of the game market, he predicted.

Gree is rapidly growing, tripling its employees to more than 1,800 over the last year. The startup now has overseas offices, including San Francisco, London, Beijing, Sao Paulo and Dubai ? determined to conquer emerging markets, he said.

"If we stop taking up challenges, there is no future. Globalization is a huge opportunity," he said in a keynote speech at the show.

The advent of faster mobile connections, known as LTE or 4G, already available in some parts of Japan as well as the U.S., could pave the way for new kinds of games. A new technology using the Internet called cloud computing also holds potential for games.

"It's not a lost cause. The market is still growing. There are still business opportunities," said Shin Unozawa, vice president of major Japanese game software maker Namco Bandai Games.

He said one of his company's blockbuster Gundam games was offered for free, but raked in 700 million yen ($8.9 million) in revenue by charging for additional playing after the first three free eight-minutes of play per day.

Andrew House, chief of Sony's game business, brushed off worries about losing out to smartphones.

He said the boundaries between game machines and other network-connecting devices were "artificial," and game machines were also enjoying growth because of digital downloads, connectivity and social games.

The introduction Wednesday of the slimmer PlayStation 3 home console with bigger memory storage, key for social games and downloads, was in response to such consumer needs, he said. The new PlayStation 3 goes on sale later this year.

"To equate packaged media's shift to digital to the disappearance of consoles is something maybe of a misnomer," House said. "The pace of change is very rapid. And I think that creates simultaneously a lot of excitement about new possibilities. But it also presents challenges."
