FEAR series being resurrected as a free-to-play online game

In a classic case of sequelitis, a new game in the FEAR franchise has been announced. This time, the game is taking on a different genre altogether. Developed by Korean company Inplay Interactive, FEAR Online is set to be a free-to-play multiplayer shooter. The game is being published by Aeria Games.

The game will revolve around several team-based game modes on ten different maps. Teams will consist of four players, and will be pit against human as well as inhuman enemies. FEAR 3's Soul King mechanic will also be making its way to the online game, using which players can possess an enemy to learn its abilities.

Face your fears of nine-year-old girls!

Just because its a multiplayer game doesn't mean it won't have any plot to it. FEAR Online will continue the confusing and insane plot of the franchise which revolves around a psychic 9-year-old child and her children who were created to be super soldiers. FEAR Online's events will run parallel to the events of Fear 2: Project Origin.

The FEAR franchise is a series of first-person survival-horror games. Only the first one is counted as being any good, however, since the games? plotlines have generally taken a turn for the worse with the release of FEAR 2 and 3. The game was lauded not only for its solid FPS mechanics and tight gunplay, but also for its claustrophobic and atmospheric horror segments where the ghost of the child would haunt the player.

Those who want to check out the open beta for FEAR Online can sign up for it on the official website.
